Counting down: 3

There’s only one word to describe the current situation surreal.

It’s 3 days until we go. I feel like this past year has flew in and this almost week has felt like a day.

No matter how long you are away for, whether it be a weeks holiday to Spain, a month in America or a year in Australia there’s always something you miss from home. So today it’s going to be the 3 things I’ll miss most.

image

3. My sister/family – honestly, my little sister will miss me more than I miss her (she’s 9, I’ll just be glad for the peace and quiet). Okay I kid, I’ll miss her so much. For the past year I’ve lived with her and my dad and she’s loved it so much, so have I. It’s always great seeing my sister everyday rather than once a week, but I’ll still be glad for the break from her haha!

2. Irn bru – let’s be honest, typical Scots thing to say and honestly I don’t even drink it that often but there’s nothing like waking up after being out on the town the night before and getting yourself a cold can of bru.

1. My own bed – I’m the type of person that can sleep anywhere, and when I say anywhere.. I mean anywhere. But there’s just something about getting into your own bed after a long day. I can assure you, I’m going to miss my bed.

What things do you all miss most when you’re away from home? Comment below and let me know!

Counting down: 4

Currently feeling a wide range of emotions: scared, nervous, anxious, fucking excited.
We head to America for this trip in 4 days time.. we booked our flights 10 months ago and now suddenly here we are just days away from getting on that plane and starting our road trip.

Today is another day, and another list. 4 things I’m trying not to forget.

image

With it being just a few days until we go it’s a case of frantically trying to remember what there is still to be packed or just what we have to remember to take!

4. Camera – I honestly can’t imagine not being able to take pictures of almost everything. I’ve always been snap happy, and it’s always proven on holidays when I come back with 1000s of pictures. This month long trip will definitely not be any different. Although I’ll have my phone, it’s not the same as using a proper camera.

3. Passport/drivers licence- I feel like I need to mention the simple things here. I’m not usually the type of person to forget things as important as this but, my passport is laying out somewhere I can see and somewhere I’ll remember to pick it up from. And if I forget my licence I can kiss goodbye to driving in America.

2. Credit cards/money – once again the simple things. With it relying so heavily on myself especially, this needs to be on my list. My card is being used for the car and the hotel in Vegas etc so it’s essential that I remember to take them.

1. Notebook and pen – this is for most people a once in a lifetime experience and I want to be able to document our journey. I’ve bought myself a beautiful wee travel journal and I can’t wait to write in it. 40 years from now when my memory won’t be at its best I’ll have my pictures from my camera and my day to day ramblings of my journal.

There is of course so much more to remember to take but I’ll be happy with these 4 items.

Counting down: 5

5 days to go.

Today it’s all about the top 5 things I can’t wait to do while on my road trip in America.

5. Visit the Grand Canyon – typical tourist thing, but I really can’t wait to visit and take some beautifully picturesque pictures of this amazing landscape.

4. Visit Alcatraz – one of the last things we’ll be doing on our trip but something that’s been on our list to do since we started planning. We’re doing the night tour towards the end of June and I definitely can’t wait for it.

3. See Les Miserables – I can’t explain just how excited I am for this. Les Miserables is one of my all time favourites and I’m so stoked that one of my friends is coming with me to see it in NYC (next week!).

2. Bike ride through central park – it’s the little things sometimes. Jumping on a bike and cycling through central park is definitely something I can’t wait for. I seen a little of central park last time I was in NYC but it will be good to see it in the summer with my best pals at our own chilled out, relaxed pace.

1. Driving! – well how could I not mention driving itself. Boston to San Francisco, what’s not to be excited about? Getting behind the wheel with my pals and driving from the east to the west.

I’ve never been more excited about something in my life. A month long trip with my 3 gals, and all you!

Leave me a comment below and let me know what your favourite parts of your trips have been or what you are exited about!

Counting down: 6

6 days. It’s only 6 days until we fly into Boston and begin our road trip.

I thought over these next couple of days I would use the number of days to do a list of different places I can’t wait to go/things I can’t wait to do etc etc.

Today I’m going to start with the top 6 places I can’t wait to go.

6. Boston – it’s the first place on our trip. We fly into Boston, stay for a few days then collect our car and move on. I’m really looking forward to Boston mainly because it’s going to be the birthplace of this trip. I know Boston is surrounded by so much history and I can’t wait to explore.

5. San Francisco – I’ve heard a lot of people saying that San Fran is one place they wouldn’t be too keen on going and I really can’t understand why? It’s firmly on my list of places to go.

4. New Orleans – You would be crazy if you didn’t want to visit NOLA and head to the French Quarter. I want rum punch and karaoke in my life and I know this is the place to go.

3. Abingdon – A random town we picked to stop off on our way to Nashville, yet one of the places I’m most excited for because we really don’t know what we’re going to find.

2. Amarillo – I’m definitely looking forward to going here, it’s all about heading to Cadillac Ranch. It was one of the first things we found to do on our journey so needless to say I’m looking forward to it.

1. Las Vegas – Las Vegas has to be another for me. I think this is mainly because I was meant to be there over new year and for certain reasons couldn’t. I missed out on my first chance of going so I can’t wait to actually be there.

Obviously I’m looking forward to going everywhere and actually picking these 6 was harder than it seems. Once my trip is over I’ll be able to compare and see if these 6 were the places I enjoyed most!

Feel free to leave me a comment below. Have you been to any of these places? Tell me about your experience.

ONE WEEK!

If you’ve been following me you’ll know I’m on countdown mode till my road trip in America. As of today we’re ONE WEEK out.

Time is flying past now.

This time next week I’ll be at the airport waiting to board my first flight. I’ll be with my 3 best friends both nervous and excited about what our month in America holds.

image

I can’t wait to go on this adventure with my best friends. I also can’t wait to share my experiences with all of you! Remember if you have instagram and want to see something from our trip (probably 10 posts a day let’s be honest) follow our group instagram.

Did I mention it was one week away?

The next week is going to be pretty full on for me. I’m working everyday, 10-13 hour shifts. Luckily I’ve already packed my case, I just need to double check I do have everything. I’m scared I’m going to forget a lot of things. I’ll need to write a check list for myself, although what do I need to make sure I take? My head is all over the place at the moment so god knows what will end up on my list.

Feel free to leave a comment below. I’ll hopefully be posting as much as I can while I’m away, so I look forward to sharing my adventures with you all.

Oh boy 13 days to go.

Who would have thought 2 years ago when the question was first brought to light of heading to America that we would actually do it?

2 years later, our trip has changed many a time although has had a permanent fixture from the end of 2015. We’re less than 2 weeks out before we get on our first plane and head to Boston to start our trip and I couldn’t be more excited.

We pretty much know every detail of what we want to be doing and have a few things already planned.

One thing I am wanting to add to my ‘to do’ list though is see a new favourite comedian of mine (jiggy; check him out here or follow him on twittee here) when we’re in NYC. Although unfortunately I’m missing out on seeing him I’m NYC by a day (I’ll still be in Boston) he is playing a gig an hour out of NYC in Princeton and I’m very much considering going. My only thing is I don’t think my friends would want to go which then means me taking the car and heading there myself. Doesn’t sound that bad am I right? Well yeah I guess it’s not but considering I’ll probably only have driven the car once for about an hour beforehand a trip myself does seem a little daunting.
I’m considering it though.

Really considering it actually.. it would probably be one of my favourite parts of the whole trip seeing him ngl.
There’s nothing better than a little bit of live comedy and being someone that laughs nonstop comedians are what I’m all about. Plus there’s just something about comedians (😍).

Anyway, my road trip is 13 days away and I’m incredibly excited. I can’t wait to share my experience on here with you all. If you have instagram make sure to follow ours here.

Road trip via Instagam

As most of you will already know, I’m off on a road trip across America with 3 of my best friends in just a few weeks time. (If you don’t know about it basically the 4 of us are heading off to America at the end of May for a month. We’re driving from Boston to San Francisco and we’re all incredibly excited!).

4 travelling Scots take on America. The east coast, the west coast and everything in between.

This post is basically me just letting you all know that if you want to follow our journey, not just through my eyes but through my friends as well then feel free to follow our group instagram here.

If you don’t want to follow along, that’s all fine and dandy but I will have you know you’re going to miss some epic car videos of us pretending we’re various celebrities in music videos, loads of Scottish banter, plus many tourist pictures and some not so tourist pics.. Plus a lot more of course.

Don’t worry though if you decide not to give us a little follow, I will be trying my best to update here with new posts about how our trip is getting on as regularly as I can. Which should be easily enough done as a) I’m a complete night owl and b) when I’m in the car and not driving I won’t have much else to do.

If you’re going to decide to follow us on our instagram (@roadtrippin16x), I guess I better make a quick introduction for the other 3 girls!

Packing and Panicing.

April is almost over, next comes May; and for me this means my road trip to America with 3 of my best friends is just around the corner.

It’s only 31 days until we head off on what will (I’m pretty sure) be one of the most incredible months of my life. This upcoming month leading up to us heading off is mainly consisted of me (like the title says) packing and panicing.

It’s at the stage where it really is just around the corner, and we’re all wondering what exactly do we pack? Are we taking too much? Too little? Am I forgetting something? Not to mention my constant panic and worry about money. It’s something I’m not going to get into too much but let’s just say with it one month until I go I’m only just now starting to panic slightly less, although I’m not completely over the panic just yet.

How much is too much when it comes to packing?

One month in America, we’re taking suitcases because we’re driving and they will be in the car most of the time. I feel like we need all different types of clothes, we’re going from city to beach with everything in between. Honestly, I haven’t started packing yet. My suitcase is in another house and I really need to get it so I can actually see what I have room for and what I can take. I feel like I’m either going to take too much or too little, I’m hopeless when it comes to packing.

Apart from packing and panicing, we have pretty much everything ready. Motels, car, flights and a few other little things are booked. Dollars are being purchased (I have about half of what I want to take). Next on our list is we’re going to be making an Instagram account that we’ll all be uploading to as we roadtrip across America. When we’ve made it I’ll be posting a link so feel free to give us a follow as for a change you won’t just see things from me. You’ll get to see through the eyes of my friends also.

I really can’t wait to get going on this trip already. I can’t wait to get loads of amazing things to post about and experiences to share with you all.

I’ll hopefully have a post or two before I go to America and when I’m there I’m hoping to post as much as I can also. Leave me a comment as always, link me to any of your posts about trips you’ve been on or are currently planning. I love reading about everyone’s travelling adventures.

49 days from now.

It honestly seems like just yesterday my friends and I walked into STA Travel ready to discuss our trip and book our flights. But it wasn’t yesterday, it was the 27th of July last year. Almost 9 months later, we now have 7 weeks exactly until we board our plane.

I’ve pretty much since then been counting down. Every now and again I would pop onto the STA Travel app and see the days counting their way down.

image

In 300 days. 300 300 300.
And now, well it’s certainly not 300 days now, in fact no where near

image

To think how close it has gotten and how quickly. It’s mad. I want to have been on our flights, arrived in America, spent our first few days there and picked up our car ready to hit the open road (albeit nervous as fuck as we’ll be driving on the opposite side of the road, in the opposite side of the car).

I’m not going to lie, my posts from now on will pretty much be similar until I go as I’ll just be counting down the days. But come and join the excitement with me.

Are you planning any trips anytime soon? Has your countdown started? Leave me a comment and let me know, or just message me linking to your blog for me to have a look at.

When is it you go?

When I started telling people about my road trip plans they all seemed so excited and it’s amazing to see that a year later they still seem to be as excited for me as they were all those months ago.

With it fast approaching I’m getting more nervous and excited by the day. As of April 1st my answer to the following question has changed. “When is it you go?” My answer used to be how many days it was until we go (currently 57), but I now reply with “next month”. It may be the end of next month but it’s still so exciting.

image

It’s an incredible feeling knowing our trip that has been in the planning for 2 years is finally starting to come around and is now only a few weeks away.

Last minute nerves are definitely kicking in.

Will i have enough money? Will I pack enough? What if I pack too much? What if something goes wrong? What do we do if we really struggle to drive? Etc etc.

Honestly though, I’m trying not to think about anything at the moment though. I’m concentrating on getting through my days in work and trying to just be excited about this amazing trip my friends and I will be venturing on very soon!!

Are you going a trip soon? Maybe you’ve been one already? Leave me a comment and link me to any posts you’ve written about them. I would love to read them.
