LDN: comedians, tourist duties and a drunk Yasmin.

London for me is a place that holds a lot of great memories. It’s somewhere I don’t tend to visit as often as I used to, so having the opportunity to go down for a weekend was delightful. I tend to only go down to London if I have a reason to, my reason this time? To see a comedian.
Who’s this comedian? And why travel from Glasgow to London to see him? Questions I hear you all ask. Well.. his name is Mark ‘Jiggy’ Jigarjian and he’s an american comedian. If you’ve heard of him it’s probably because he supports the Impractical jokers on their tours across the states usually. I love any excuse to go to London and the fact Jiggy was coming over to the UK to do one show down there, well I just HAD to go.
I travelled down my bus (megabus) it is always the loooongest journey ever but I’m constantly skint so cheap and not so cheerful way to get down there it is for me. Leaving Wednesday night I arrived on Thursday morning. I tend to stay in Travelodges when I go to London, mainly because that’s where I’ve always stayed, this time was no different staying in the King’s Cross Royal Scot Travelodge where I’ve stayed before. Hey, it has a bed and that’s all I care about.

On the Thursday Jiggy decided to do a podcast in a pub not too far from my hotel so of course I was going. He had brought 2 friends over with him (Tim Brierley and Mike Charette) so they performed a small comedy set first and then the three together done a podcast. These are 3 seriously funny guys, so please check them out! 

Afterwards we said hey, got a picture and I did buy one of Mike’s shot glasses because I have a thing for them. Whenever I travel somewhere new that’s what I buy myself so I have a small collection now. Everyone then headed upstairs to the pub and we all got drunk.

The Friday was payday and a day of sightseeing. Shopping was first on the list, myself buying make up, make up and yet more make up. Usual! I’ve seen London many times before so all I seen was big Ben and the London eye because when you’ve seen them once you’ve seen them a million times.

Sightseeing over with. I then met up with some friends that were down in London, we ended up in Zebrano it was 2 for 1 on cocktails as well so I was in my element. I can’t even remember the cocktails I had (I think I had about 4) but they were all delicious!
Saturday called for camden market to start the day off! 

And I’m not going to lie. The best part was finding somewhere to get cocktails and the food. I wasn’t all that impressed with the place I’m not going to lie. After a change we headed to Jiggy’s proper comedy show, where I met up with another girl from Glasgow and some other really great girls. We laughed, we drank, we had fun. I won’t go into details about the rest of the night because it was fun yes, but it was also ruined slightly (that’s a story for another time though) let’s just say I ended up in Beckys hotel  (the girl from Glasgow) till about 8am drunk af. Good times!
My trip to London ended by meeting up with jiggy and everyone else and going for a nandos then hanging with some girls before leaving to get my coach home.

No matter what I’m down there for, I always have such a great time. Can’t wait to go back in October now.

Travel Plans 2016/17

I don’t know about you but one of my favourite times is when I first start planning a trip somewhere. It’s all the excitement of where to go, when to go, what to do and see etc.

Like I’ve previously said, after coming back from my month in America I 100% have the post travel blues. So much so, that I was back not even 24 hours and was already planning next years big travels, but I’ll start off with the not so distant future first.

 

• Dublin: Nothing is booked for Dublin as it was literally just brought into play a few hours ago. With one of my friends having time off work in the middle of August she mentioned she didn’t want to be off from work and not do anything so, Dublin. I’ve been twice before and I loved it, so why not go back? It will just be for about 2 days, but 2 days away from here and away from work is better than nothing at all.
• London: The weekend after I plan on going to Dublin, I’m heading back down to London. I cannot wait, London is a favourite place of mine. I’m going to London for 4 days, why? Comedy of course. You may not have heard of him but I’m going down to see a comedian from Boston (so fitting after my last post) who is based in NY. I unfortunately didn’t get to see him when I was in NY as he had shows in Princeton. Anything for an excuse to go to London for me.
• Kraków/Reykjavik: It will be one or the other, I’m still waiting to see if myself and my 5 best friends are going away for a weekend, but if not I might just have to head off to one of these places myself. It will be October/November time so it will be a good end to the year as my last trip of 2016.
• London: Again? I hear you ask. Again. Like before I’m off to London for Comedic reasons, two weekends in a row I’m going down to see the Impractical Jokers. The excitement I have for these shows is something else. If you don’t know who the Impractical Jokers are I beg you to find out. They are 4 of the funniest guys ever, from Staten Island. Check them out.
• Thailand: Camp Thailand to be precise, and possibly some travelling afterwards. I’ve applied for a new job and it all depends on the outcome of that as to whether I go for 3 weeks or 3 months (just a small jump in time). All I do know is, I plan on heading out at the end of August and am so ridiculously excited as Thailand is somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for a few years now.

London, you’ve stolen my heart.. Again.

There’s just something about London that makes me fall in love with the city every time I go down, this weekend just gone wasn’t any different. I headed down on a sleeper bus on Saturday night to arrive the Sunday morning, which I did. Bright and early, I was in London on Sunday.. 6:45am to be precise to make it even better I couldn’t check into my hotel until 3pm and I forgot England has the Sunday trading law so shops don’t open until 12, definitely not what I needed.

Let’s just say, I went to Buckingham palace twice that day, just to waste some time. Also spent an hour in Primark on Oxford Street not even able to buy anything because from 11am you can only browse until 12. This was definitely the only downside. If I’m honest though, I love just wandering about London, I do it pretty much every time I go down. 

The whole reason I was down though, the main reason I always go to London, for a gig of course. I went to see The Midnight Beast in Dingwalls, Camden. First time in Camden and what a nightmare it was trying to find the venue, I headed in the wrong direction at first then luckily realised this, headed in the right direction then walked past the venue in the wrong direction again. It was definitely not my night! I did finally find it though and I had a good night, spent it beside the bar for a change, as usually I’m front row at gigs. It was a different atmosphere obviously but it was good, I really enjoyed it.

Unfortunately my London adventures didn’t go any further, I went back to the hotel that night and got the coach home the next day. If I’m honest though, I don’t care how long I’m down there for, I just love going down at all. Whether it be for an hour, a day or a week. I love every minute.

Currently contemplating going down this Saturday for the day as I’m now off work.. Oh temptation.
