After our 2016 American road trip from Boston to San Francisco we decided we just had to go back to the states. Only unlike last time we’re just visiting for 2 weeks and not going to anywhere near as many places as we did before. This time, we’re revisiting our favourites; Nashville and New Orleans (with a few new stops along the way).
It’s all part of the adventure
When your trip starts off in the worst possible way, all you can say is “it’s all part of the adventure.”
For us our trip has started off in the worst possible ways. Firstly we were delayed leaving Glasgow by 2 hours because of the weather in Amsterdam. Finally we were allowed to take off and after circling the skies of Amsterdam we landed. Only to be told our connecting flight to Boston was leaving in 10 minutes time and we probably won’t make it.
We ran for our lives across the airport and made it onto our plane literally 2 minutes before we took off.
Now you’re thinking well that’s not too bad, and no of course it isn’t. Until we arrived in Boston. We got off our flight, through customs toward the baggage carousel and what wasn’t there? Our luggage.
Usually I really wouldn’t care but we’re only here in Boston until Wednesday so knowing we don’t have our luggage with absolutely everything is not ideal. Apparently through it will be getting sent to our motel today (fingers crossed).
We had to spend our first night in Boston shopping for clothes and toiletries etc (in all fairness I was smart and did put extra clothes in my hand luggage but it’s roasting here so I don’t want to wear jeans).
So day one of our trip hasn’t gone exactly to plan.. but as I keep saying “it’s all part of the adventure.”
49 days from now.
It honestly seems like just yesterday my friends and I walked into STA Travel ready to discuss our trip and book our flights. But it wasn’t yesterday, it was the 27th of July last year. Almost 9 months later, we now have 7 weeks exactly until we board our plane.
I’ve pretty much since then been counting down. Every now and again I would pop onto the STA Travel app and see the days counting their way down.
In 300 days. 300 300 300.
And now, well it’s certainly not 300 days now, in fact no where near
To think how close it has gotten and how quickly. It’s mad. I want to have been on our flights, arrived in America, spent our first few days there and picked up our car ready to hit the open road (albeit nervous as fuck as we’ll be driving on the opposite side of the road, in the opposite side of the car).
I’m not going to lie, my posts from now on will pretty much be similar until I go as I’ll just be counting down the days. But come and join the excitement with me.
Are you planning any trips anytime soon? Has your countdown started? Leave me a comment and let me know, or just message me linking to your blog for me to have a look at.
Flights to America
It’s official now.
Our flights to America are booked for next year, I can’t quite believe it. It’s all feeling so real now.
- 30th May 2016 we fly from Glasgow to Amsterdam/Amsterdam to Boston.
- 29th June 2016 we fly from San Fransisco to Amsterdam/Amsterdam to Glasgow.
Got such a great deal on our flights, £555pp with STA Travel, almost £200pp cheaper than what we had originally found online. Now that the flights are booked it’s really sunk in to us all that this is happening, we are going on our road trip across America. I really can’t wait for this experience with my best friends, it’s going to be unreal.
Advice please guys..
Basically everything I’ve read about RTW trips say not to book everything through travel agents and to book it yourself, as you go. I’m one of those people that because I’m travelling myself I would want to have everything booked, whether it be flights, hostels or anything else. But then I know that wouldn’t leave my trip very open to do what I want..
Basically guys I’m asking for your advice? I’m wanting to travel Asia mostly but probably some other places too if I can afford it. What am I best to do? Book as I go or book in bulk before I go? Also any advice of the best places to go or stay or whatever would be greatly appreciated!
